It makes no sense to demand cosmetologists be more schooled in their art than police. The worst that could happen from a bad cosmetologist? A bad hair-do. Lice. The worst from a police officer? You could be shot in the head.

I think this stems from the days when infectious diseases like TB were not well controlled and passed on in salons. In modern day, at least one stylist has been sued 7 figures for a bad hair cut because it "ruined" her romantic activities.

Not true. How comforting would it be to find out that your stylist is using the same comb or brush she/he used on someone with lesions and wasn't taking the time to properly sterilize all of the tools?
Next time you go for a manicure--make sure your manicurist isn't using the same files that have been used on the last ten people.
Granted---I'd rather take my chances with a file than a bullet, but don't ever make light of the diseases that can travel through a salon.
