Careers & Jobs – It is very important for students to gain "real world" work experience before seeking a full-time career. Books, research and informational interviews are great for understanding the basics of a particular industry. But the reality is, it's hard to really know how well you'll take to a specific career field without actually experiencin
Yup, totally agree.
Nowadays is not really about the certs and degrees but a SKILL that you have. With a SKILL, nobody can take that away from you and of course.. no one can retrench.
Another they need to invest in is self development or somesort, for example to read interview and reports that can increase thier knowledge about financial literacy. Just like this free interview on Bob Proctor and Stephen Pierce talking about The Secrets to Wealth.

So like this type of information would prepare them not to work for money but be grateful and happy.. why human need's more money or always sacrifice good time just for work? Sometimes we just lost our true way in this complicated society.. sometimes we just want to be happy.. as simple as that..

I am a hiring manager and I will take experience over education every time. Now if a person has both, then they are golden.
I agree 100%.
I think this country, particularly in the past decade or two has put too much emphasis on education apposed to a more valuable work experience and work ethic.
In my experience, I believe most companies are starting to come to that realization. I see my friends who recently graduated from there 4 year degrees either unable to get a job in there field or stuck in entry level making $20,000 a year while someone like myself with a lot of experience and no degree easily outpacing thier earning and growth in the field.
Interesting on experince over education. I started a company that was Inc 500's 503 fastest growing company. It has generate millions in sales. I was tired of the company and thought I'd check my market value. Best I could do was asst mngr at a tele marketing company. Starting pay was minumim wage, plus a higher than normal commission!!! I didn't have any paper to go with the resume.
There should also be something in college for kids to learn about office politics and opffice edicate.
I find myself having to work along side some recent graduates and regardless of how smart they are or how fancy of an education they have, they are clueless when it comes to just knowing how to act and how to present themselves in the work place. Which in my opinion is as important at work as work ethic and talent
I think for the students in aprticular who move away and live on campus, being around unemplyed teenages/early 20's college students 24 hours a day causes them to stay very immature. And that attitude doesnt just disapear immediately after graduation. And its very hard for them to understand. Ove found myself having to lend a hand and explain things to them and they just dont get it because its a whole new strange world to them
