Yeah, if only it were that simple. Never mind demographics, or knowing the right people, or living in a nepotistic town. I know PLENTY of smart, educated and POOR people, and some rich STUPID and financially rich people. Sorry, but it's not that cut and dry. My dad was smart, educated and in the right industry, but his 'boss' was stupid but KISSED THE RIGHT BUTT and never 'made waves' and that's why HE was the boss. He was a butt kisser, and my dad would never SINK that LOW. Luckily I don't KISS BUTT EITHER.

One of the best editorial cartoons I ever saw was of the very wealthy and successful Steve Forbes, when he was running for president, standing on a pedestal, arms akimbo, and the caption read..."I wish all of you whiners would roll up your shirtsleeves, get busy, and inherit your own fortunes!"...Sometimes it's just who's your Daddy!

Weak. If you are waiting for your parents to be retroactively wealthy, then I guess you can keep on waiting.
What is wrong with working to put yourself through college on your own? What is wrong with taking student loans? What is wrong with going without any new stuff or vacations until you finish your college education?

While I recognize it is harder to get into schools if you grow up in a ghetto, there are a lot of opportunities (i.e. scholarships) for minorities. Yeah, I know I'm going to get flamed on this, but if you work hard enough you can overcome any adversity. Isn't that what all those movies are telling us??

Very good points. I come from a family that couldn't afford to send me to college, wern't rich at all, actually they were immagrants and did not win the lottery. With that said, I still consider myself a leader and successful at what I value.
Success can be measured in so many ways...financial stability, position held in a company, quality of life, maintaining positive relationships with friends and family members, etc.

Very true --- about 20 years ago I was in the six figure income bracket but realized I was living to work. Not worth it so my income is considerably less (way less) but I am more successful and richer than I could have imagined. I love my job, I have a full life, and I'm rich with happiness, family and friends. That's what it's all about not living to work.
And think about it, who ever on their deathbed said, "boy I should have worked harder, spent more time at the office?"

Odviously being a good speller is not that important to being successful. The correct spelling is organization.

There are many succesful people who cannot spell. You are limiting your organizations resources if you hire only good spellers. You might want to go searching your shredder basket for the analytical, mechanical and creative people you shredded. Forget it ! Piecing together those shredded resumes takes a little more skill than good spelling. Something your organization doesn't have.

Success in the money world is ok if you get it for free, but it's not worth working everyday of your whole life for. To be truly successful you need to live life, not acumulate a buntch of money and junk. Life is only for a short while, don't spend it trying to build up anything as the only wealth and security you can ever have is time. Over achievers fail at life and they usually don't understand that till its to late.

LOL!LOL!LOL! This has got to be up there at the top of the most useless lists of "what to do"... Focus? Honesty? Hard work? etc. do NOT mean a thing in the real working world! It is who you know and how you play the "game". I think we have all seen or experienced someone or ourselves, work hard, get the job done and then have another party walk away with the kudos, promotion and raise! Anyone who takes this list seriously needs to get a reality check-the working worlds does NOT function under these conditions! Its is Politics, Politics, Politics. Classis example for me: I worked at a firm and one year I got the "best" rating and raise of hte entire company, the next year? I got the "worst" rating and raise. Difference between years? The PERSON I WORKED FOR. My working habits did not change, but upper personnel did!

to be successful, you have to be rich or know someone that is rich or live in the same city with rich people. your ideas will always be ideas untill someone with big bank account converts your ideas into actions.
sooo, connection is needed.

Do you really want to be poor? Why can't you be financially stable and also have the other things in life that are important to you?

Excuses, I mean reasons for being unsuccussful:
1. Wasn't born into money
2. Didn't have rich parents that could send you to college
3. Didn't win the lottery

My experience has shown me that reading how to be successful usually takes up all of the time that you need to become successful. I have known many highly educated people who are NOT successful or rich. However, I have a good friend who never completed the 8th grade who is a multi-millionaire. His secret??.....Follow the trends. Don't be afraid to get your hands dirty. Get in and get out while it is still a trend. Last, and most important....DON'T PLAY BY THE RULES!!!
I have never been able to put these ideas to work even though I have invented many things and hold patents on most of them. It takes a certain mindset. Some of us just don't have that and no amount of advice will give it to us.

The bad news is that you cannot pick your parents. And you get the looks that you inherited. A person can do the best with what they were born with as far as their looks are concerned. As far as being athletic, this is addressable too. I lost 45 pounds last year for all kinds of reasons but one of them was because I felt that my appearance was holding me back.
I got a new and much better job this year. A part albeit probably a small part of it was because I looked better.

You are defining success by money, how stupid. There are a lot of things more important than money. Money would make most of us prudish aholes. I would place moral values and love ahead of money cause thats all I got. :)
