I would like to second the "Print out directions" tip. For my last interview I left way early, so if all went well I'd have about 45 minutes to spare before the interview. Of course, all did not go well: I missed my turn and went about 30 miles out of my way and ended up having to stop and ask for directions. I made it to the interview with about two minutes to spare, panting and sweating and looking like I'd just run a marathon. Fortunately they were running late so I had a few minutes to cool off before they pulled me into the conference room, and amazingly, I actually got the job!
Of course I HAD written down directions, but what I should done was printed out a map of the area, which probably would have saved me a lot of trouble.

This sort of stuff happens to me. No matter how much I prepare something gets in the way. My last interview went well but to get hired, the we will call you statement ticked me off. So I called two days straight in a row and each time I was refused to speak to personal, The next day they pick up the phone I told them I was told to call. The person that answered the phone ask me their name, I told them I didn't get their name, some little man. Then I got into the personal office. I broke through the good old boy system. They were worried that one of the bosses were expecting me. I think the bosses were worried that if they didn't hire me that their boss would be calling.

I can't stress enough how important researching your employer is. It shows you are willing to be proactive and go above and beyond what's required of you. I just wrote an article along those lines.

Many great suggestions. I've been in a program that helps teach you important items concerning job sreaching. I've had many people tell me that it is so important when the interviewer ask you if you have any questions. You must have at least one. My favorite is: What qualities are you looking for in the person who is hired for this postition. You would be amazed at how they answer. I've gotten some good gossip about the work place. Sometimes enough that makes me think twice about the position.

That's a great question, and your spot on about having a follow up question lined up!
It's all about open ended questions. Get the interviewer talking as much as possible.

Great article, but I am on the other end of these interviews. It is just as hard to interview someone as it is to be interviewed. I have to prepare a lot of questions for the people as well as review their resumes in depth.
For those going on an interview - believe me - you wouldn't have been called unless you have a real shot at getting the job. I personally have very little time to waste and I'll bet it is the same for whoever you will be interviewing with.
Researching the company is the best thing you can do. If it is a conservative company then you should dress conservatively. More often than not, we end up hiring the candidate that we feel would fit in with the company even if their resume is not the strongest. We'll get them the experience and training they lack.
By the way, can anyone define what a "non-offensive breakfast" is?
