I got a good laugh from all the reasons these guys tried to convince people they should drop out of college. Pretty funny, and scary that some of them are true. I can't believe how much money people spend on attending college universities compared to similar educations available through different channels. Great laugh if you attended college.

only reasons to go to college that i know of (and keep in mind I am a grad):

    1) prove you can put up with all the %%&(*^

    2) learn how to learn

    3) learn you are not as smart as you thought you were!

I went to a relatively prestigious college... and then upon graduating got my job based on some articles I published on the Internet. No... a prestigious degree is NOT worth the $$$ (although, unfortunately, maybe the connections you get ARE)

Im 23, have a good job (for my age) ((hell, im at work right now and doing this, thats gotta mean something lol)) Ive gone to college on and off for a few years and was planning on becoming a teacher. I was recently accepted into a really expensive school that was top 5 in the nation for my specific major but at the 11th hour have decided not to go because it would mean giving up my job and moving to a town with a population of a few hundred people (not counting students at the school), not to mention the expense of school and all. Id atleast like to finsh my damn 2 year

Im honestly feeling kinda like a loser for giving up. Anyone have any suggestion on the subject?

They mentiond online courses, anyone have any experiences with those or point me in the right direction?

Online courses are a decent option -- just make sure the online school is accredited, or the credits won't transfer. But schools like the University of Phoenix et al are beginning to get some acceptance from employers.

Pinto - go with your gut. Maybe it happened too fast. You don't have to make a decision right now - the opportunity is not off the table and a better one that feels right may come along.

When I think of the amount of time I've waisted worrying about "should of, could of, what if's," I'd drive myself crazy. And by the way, nothing is written in stone. Despite what I thought were poor decisions, I get why I made them now - I'm right where I'm supposed to be. As long as your intentions are for good reasons - being true to yourself - then you'll always land on your feet - promise.

One of my favorite sayings - "Life is not a test you pass or fail."...right?

Definitely check the accreditation. I would suggest looking for schools that have their accreditation from the North Central Association. Online schools are not bad and can be extremely worth the effort as even some of the "major" players are now entering the area. For instance, the Indiana University Kelly School of Business is now offering online MBAs. For most classes and majors it is the wave of the future as the paradigm shifts with technological enhancements.

It's a good idea to drop out who needs that crap anyway. Things are great being dumb. If it means you might learn something that nobody in the work place wants to teach you because they all worry about their own asses then why bother. Yeah,it's a much better idea to not go to college.

You're probably miles ahead of most people your age - it may not feel like it because true achievers are always looking to move forward - despite already doing well. Just do me a favor, if and when I'm working for you, please don't ask me to bring you coffee.:-)

Depends what you want to do. To be a teacher you have to have whatever the state requirements are where you intend to teach. Getting to be a doctor for instance still has to involve certification by the AMA in this country. Lots of professions are the same way. Business and being self-employed are the best bets to advancing without a college degree. Good waiters/bartenders are at about the top of the service industry. Paralegals and some legal secretaries also make a living. Those cover the legal professions in most states beside Nevada.

An education is more than making money or spending money to get it. An education is its own reward. If you're marking time or will bankrupt yourself or your parents, think of a different alternative to get the education you need. Life time learning is one way to look at the whole process rather than one 2 to 6 year internment.

College is way overrated....its just like everything else in life...its what you make of it...I dropped out of college after a single semester and I am very successful thus far. In fact...had i remained in college I would be making less money.

After reading everybodys comments I now know why that all of the good paying jobs in America are being out-sourced to foreign countries. In other words how many computer tech lines (dell, hewlett packard....) are in India or other countries. I am sorry I have a 4 year degree and I may work on the same shop floor with a bunch of guys that don't have college degrees, but also in the same respect they wonder why my wife doesnt work, and that I can afford two $35,000 vehicles and a $300,000 dollar house when most of them can't even afford a new car. Yes college is expensive but I have more then made up the money I paid in tuition, but if you want to be like my buddies and stay at the same thankless $20,000 a year job till your 70 taking crap from some snot nose 27 year old that just got out of college. Maybee your wage will equal the $85,000 a year I made the first year I graduated.
